From Separated To United

FIC#59: Story of Stella and Her Family

Trauma

In 2004, I came to Hong Kong from the mainland to reunite with my husband and two sons, relying on my husband’s meager income to support our family of four.

In 2016, I gave birth to twins, which marked the beginning of a nightmare. My ex-husband’s health deteriorated, which made him unable to work, and he eventually had a short temper. After having two daughters, I suffered from incontinence and high blood sugar.

I put all my efforts on caring for my family when my ex-husband refused to take up the responsibility of taking care of the two daughters and even threatened to “throw them out” onto the street. He went missing on the day of their first month celebration. Overwhelmed, I finally divorced him, but I developed depression and suffered from insomnia.

Changes

In 2023, ChickenSoup foundation provided comprehensive help for me and my children. The therapy offered help to repair my relationship with my two sons, while parenting courses taught me how to improve my interactions with my daughters, allowing us to uplift our mind, body, and spirit.

Become a 'Hopeful' family

I once shared my story on YouTube Coffee, and now I am a “stewed soup,” and usually taking care of plants in the clubhouse. I love outdoor activities and flowers, hoping to contribute and help more families in need overcome their difficulties.

WORDS FROM THE FAMILY

  • “Life is difficult, but I’m thankful that I have learned the importance of self-love through the support of CSF. I have prepared a birthday gift for myself the first time in my life, thanking myself for my dedication to my family.”

  • “After my husband died, what I did was try to encourage my children on a daily basis and be a role model to show them how life still goes on. I felt more positive when my home is kept in its pristine state.”
