HK01 puts a spotlight on the urgent needs of our families who are the worst-hit during the fifth wave.
The COVID crisis has left many families feeling overwhelmed, especially for ChickenSoup’s single-parent families, who are the worst-hit during the fifth wave and have been living in simultaneous medical, financial and mental crises even prior to the pandemic.
In a recent interview with HK01, two of our single mothers Ms Chan and Kitty, have taken the courage to share their personal struggles and experiences with COVID-19. The struggles looking after SEN children on top of the lack of social support have left the two mothers feeling more depressed than ever.
With the suspension of regular SEN trainings, Kitty’s son has experienced emotional outbursts more frequently, which in return has worsened her anxiety and insomnia. Living in a worn-out subdivided flat with poor hygiene conditions, Kitty had unfortunately got infected with the virus.
Meanwhile, Ms Chan lost her job as a nanny due to the pandemic and struggled to feed her children.
Through our Urgent Appeal campaign, we are hoping to raise funds to provide food and necessities, anti-epidemic supplies, urgent mental care and SEN trainings for families like Ms Chan and Kitty – please donate, “Spark” and share our campaign!
