The abandonment of Hinson’s father has left him feeling overwhelmed and emotionally sensitive. His emotional instability and SEN have resulted in an enmeshed relationship with his mother. The support from ChickenSoup has not only restored their mother-son relationship but has also encouraged Hinson to follow his passion for video production.

“CSF staff told me: since my son is very interested in IT and becoming a YouTuber, CSF will arrange a meet & greet for my son to meet his idol Torres. I felt like dreaming and couldn’t believe it! Torres took the time to meet with us on Dragon Boat Festival. When my son saw his idol Torres, he became shy or perhaps he couldn’t believe that the good-looking man standing in front of him was really his idol Torres! Torres is very friendly, and he talked about computers and software with my son…and my son learned a lot from him.
What surprised me the most was that I always thought YouTubers were young people with computer obsession and had no intention of learning. It turned out that Torres graduated from the University of Hong Kong and has a professional surveyor license…Torres also encouraged my son to study hard to enrich himself and build up self-esteem…I believe even when I say a thousand, or ten thousand times won’t have the same effect as Torres encouraging my son for once. I’m grateful, it makes me believe that there is true love in the world.”

“On Thursday night my friend who lives alone in HK wasn’t feeling well…I received a phone call from the courier to deliver a package to my home at 7pm (because my friend is deaf and cannot hear the phone, so I always help her receive the packages)…
My son called me after school and I told him about the situation. I was making dinner for my friend at her house and planned to go home afterward to feed my son with some leftover. My son told me he can go home to pick up the package first and bring it to my friend’s home. My son’s response made me realize he has grown up.
Despite feeling exhausted after school, my son is considerate and was willing to offer help. I’m truly grateful! Around 8pm, my son showed up at my friend’s home in Shek Kip Mei and was bathed in sweat. I hope in the future my son will grow up to be a good man who is responsible and will step up to help.”

In our “Father Figures Week” campaign, we invited Youtubers Torres and Georgia to give Hinson an office tour! Aspired to become a well-known Youtuber himself, this meet-and-greet was an eye-opening learning experience for Hinson which empowers him to continue to follow his passion!
