From Disconnect To Reconnect

When Ms Lam’s ex-husband left the family and her daughter was diagnosed with severe Autism, Ms Lam suffered an emotional breakdown. She felt even more depressive and isolated when her daughter started to have frequent tantrums and outbursts. With ChickenSoup’s support, her daughter becomes more stable emotionally which allows the family to re-connect with the community.

WORDS FROM THE FAMILY

  • “I am so grateful for the help from ChickenSoup…and all of the donors. In the past two years, my daughter and I received countless support and encouragement. I’m a single mom and also a mom of a SEN child. Luckily we are backed by ChickenSoup. My daughter has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and developmental delay which requires lots of training. Although I’ve been applying for SEN support offered by the government-funded training center, there’s a long waiting list and I had to quit my job in order to look after my daughter. I was anxious and felt helpless. Fortunately, ChickenSoup gave me hope by arranging occupational training, counselling along with other trainings for my daughter which have helped her improve drastically.”

  • “ChickenSoup has also offered us food vouchers while helping me apply for transitional housing and sponsoring our home appliances. Meanwhile, their outing opportunities helped me feel more relieved mentally and stay connected to the community. Now I feel more confident and I believe everything will turn out for the best. There’s no need to be afraid of the obstacles you are now facing. Things will get better one day….”

  • “I’m very grateful for the support from all of the donors. Without your generosity and love, I probably won’t make it. Your help made me realize there are lots of loving people in the world. You ignite the spark of hope for me and my daughter. Thanks for understanding the difficulties of my family and treating us the same like everyone else. I hope to be your messenger in the future to pass on positivity.”

A "Soul Relief" Visit

As part of “Project Soul Relief,” Chef Vicky and his wife Polly hand delivered a homemade strawberry cake for Ms Lam’s daughter during a home visit to cheer up the family. Their heartwarming visit put a big smile on our family’s faces!

“Unspeakable” Hardship

Ms Lam was interviewed by “City Focus” of Hong Kong Open TV to share her struggles looking after her daughter, who was diagnosed with autism, speech delay and social impairment.
