Story of Angel and Her Family
Full-time single mother of one SEN child
“Speaking of forgiveness, not all mistakes can be forgiven, not all wounds can be healed, I hate how gambling has ruined my family. My ex-husband is addicted to gambling. He has a bad temper and doesn’t go to work. He used to hit me from time to time, so I returned to my family’s home as a result but every time he managed to persuade me to go back.
We owed a lot of money because of my ex-husband’s gambling addiction. Because of the kids I chose to forgive him every time when he apologized sincerely. In reality, my forgiveness and tolerance not only didn’t make him realize his own mistakes, but spoiled him and things got worse. He started selling valuable appliances that he found at home, like televisions, air conditioners, refrigerator etc. and he also stole my money from my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law tried to persuade him sometimes, but he ended up throwing a punch at her and we had to call the police.
My mother-in-law suggested that we get a divorce. At the end, I couldn’t bear it so I filed for divorce when my youngest son was less than one year old. After the divorce, I moved out, rented a sub-divided flat and started my journey being a single mother. Without my ex-husband’s disturbance, I don’t have to worried about getting hurt and I stopped being so afraid all the time. I stopped having nightmares as well. Although I struggle financially and our home is very tiny, I cherish the quiet and simple life now. For the sake of my children, I must cheer up!”
“Son, I’m really sorry… I didn’t manage emotions well, it’s my fault. Please forgive me, okay?
No matter what happens, you are the most important to me. Mom loves you. You are a considerate kid. I hope in the future you can better arrange your study time and be more self-disciplined so you can make progress in your studies and become a better person.
Mom knows you can do it and be a good kid.”
Despite living in hardship, Angel has learned to become more positive and hopeful with our continued support. In a recent home visit, our ambassador Ms. Dee Poon learnt more about Angel’s story and was deeply moved by the family’s transformation – watch now!
